Toronto   -  Fabulous!

From a small outpost on the shores of Lake Ontario, founded 250 years ago by strapping British Soldiers, Toronto has been growing at a steady pace and today the Greater Toronto Area is home to over 5 million people. It is the financial, cultural and communications centre of Canada and considered the most ethnically diverse city in the world, with 150 nationalities represented and dozens of distinct neighborhoods, such as Corso Italia, Greek Town, Chinatown, Little India, to name just a few. And in the centre of all is the Gay Village.

Torontonians are a friendly, courteous and tolerant lot, making you feel welcome wherever you go. Canada allows same sex marriage and Toronto was one of the first cities to perform gay weddings and in the process spawning a new industry. Gay tourism is an important part, and as proof, the city fathers have adopted the slogan ‘Toronto – as gay as it gets’. A wedding can be arranged during your stay – bring your partner.

Church Wellesley SignThe Gay Village

With Canada’s largest Gay and Lesbian population residing in Toronto, a gay neighborhood in the downtown area has evolved over the years, centered at Church and Wellesley Street. There you will find numerous restaurants, bars, dance clubs, strip clubs, bath houses and shops, catering to any and all tastes.  In the middle of all is the 519 Community Centre, located in a historic building at 519 Church Street, that now has been enlarged to twice its size and presenting countless programs geared to the LGBT community.  The “519” is also the home base of Prime Timers Toronto, where we meet at regular intervals and for special occasions. We welcome guests at our meetings and social functions. If you are in town call 416-925-9872 Ext. 2970 for information or online at: primetimerstoronto.ca

For an amazing view visit the 1,850 ft high CN Tower, one of the word’s tallest free standing structures. A large modern Zoo is located just outside the city limits. Two Casinos, featuring great entertainment, are located each a 90 minute drive away.

Art Gallery of OntarioFor Culture Mavens:

The Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario, are both long established and each one has recently been enlarged with designs by world famous architects. The ROM has the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal and during your stay will be featuring the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit. The Art Gallery Of Ontario (AGO) has just re-opened with Frank O. Gehry's $276-million transformation. This is the first Gehry building in Canada. The Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Arts is a real gem. All are within walking distance to the Gay Village.Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts

The wonderful Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts is home to the Canadian Opera Company and the renowned National Ballet of Canada. Elegant Roy Thomson Hall, is the base of the Toronto Symphony and our beloved Mendelssohn Choir. Both are being fairly close together, a few subway stops from the Gay Village.

Shop Till You Drop

Just to the south of the Village is The Eaton Centre, an enormous glass-roofed shopping centre, smack in the middle of Downtown. On three levels with over 300 stores and restaurants it is one of Toronto’s most popular tourist destination.

A few blocks north of the Village we have the very upscale and elegant Bloor/Yorkville area, lined with famous luxury stores, classy restaurants and hotels

ZippersYour Place or Mine?

Hotels are plentiful, from the ritzy luxury ones, the mid-priced and budget hotels to gay Bed and Breakfasts, we have them all in abundance.

Toronto has one of the best public transit systems in North America. An extensive subway, streetcar and bus service covers almost any part of the city very efficiently and having a car is not a necessity.

Out of Town Allures

The Stratford Festival and The Shaw Festival are each presenting world class theater and have been the training ground for some of the biggest movie and T.V. stars. The Stratford Theater is a 90 minute drive west of Toronto, the Shaw Festival is a  90 minute drive to the south-east.

Spectacular Niagara Falls is a 90 minute drive from Toronto. Ottawa, our charming capital can be reached in 4 hours, driving through lovely countryside with glorious autumn foliage.

So come and visit us and stay a few extra days before and after the Convention. The weather in Toronto in the middle of October averages a pleasant 58 F during the day and 40 F at night.
